St Ives Town Centre DCP

completed in 2005
for Ku-ring-gai Council

The main challenges of this DCP were to integrate the NSW Government’s Urban Housing legislation into the residential areas surrounding the town centre and to enhance the public domain. The improvements included the expansion of the St Ives Village Shopping Centre including a new town square, a promenade along the Village Green, burying the public carpark and the design of a network of intimately scaled lanes.

Building envelopes were prepared for over 1300 new apartments in the residential  2(d3) areas. Following the State Government direction the DCP had to provide economically viable shop-top housing in the town centre. Mona Vale Road is a major regional road which creates environmental design issues for urban housing. Economic testing was made of various types and densities, to resolve issues of solar orientation, noise abatement and cross ventilation in economically feasible forms.
