Canterbury Bankstown Council Design Review Webinars

CANTERBURY BANKSTOWN COUNCIL
DESIGN REVIEW WEBINARS

OLSSON Architecture & Urban Projects was invited to provide urban design commentary on built projects in the Canterbury Bankstown municipality. Specifically, a selection of dual occupancies, multi-dwelling housing, attached dwellings, residential flat buildings, shop top housing and mixed use housing were reviewed.

In preparation for the filming of each of the webinars, a concept storey board was prepared. Key issues and recommendations were put forward with marked up drawings identifying locations for potential improvements. Images of precedent developments were presented and described as ways of improving the current controls.

A day of filming for each typology, visiting the specified sites as well as a ‘follow up’ interview discussing the projects was informed by the background analysis and critique of the projects. Screenings of each webinar and a ‘Q & A’ session were held between OLSSON and the Council planners which facilitated passionate discussion with various planning controls and philosophies.

The outcomes of the webinars have been used to inform Council’s New Planning Framework Project, particularly the updated LEP and DCP components. The webinar is also being used to provide training to improve awareness of design decisions, and how the planning controls affect them for Council’s planning and development assessment staff.
