ST. ANDREW’S CHURCH
ACCESS & AMENITIES
SUMMER HILL NSW

Alterations and additions to St. Andrew’s Church were made to provide an accessible path of travel and entrance to the Church’s hall along with a small amenities block. In consideration of heritage advice OLSSON proposed minor interventions to the original building’s fabric by adding a new door below an existing window opening. Care was taken to retain as much original window as possible. Careful detailing associated with the new door opening saw the addition of rendered ‘quoins’ tying the door with the original fabric.

The simple and low key timer battened amenities block is connected directly to the Church hall via the new door. A flat roof hovers above with its structure independent and offset from the original building. The amenities block contains an accessible bathroom, a unisex wash closet and a storage area for the Church’s barbecue equipment. The location, layout, scale and material choices associated with the amenities block were made so as to not obscure the simple form of the original building.
